SUNY Albany, Albany NY
Brubacher Hall: This project consisted of the complete replacement of the heating system in this stately 100,000-sq. ft. dormitory building at the State University of New York at Albany downtown campus. Additionally, the project included the up-grade of the kitchen ventilation system, upgrade of the day care area ventilation and the addition of a boiler water chemical treatment system. The heating system contained asbestos containing insulation on the piping, which was removed as part of the mechanical contract. Quantum Engineering Company, PC retained the services of ENTEK, a nationally recognized asbestos abatement design firm. The new piping for the heating system requires careful layout so as not to destroy the character of the building. The heating system consisted of the conversion of a low pressure steam system to a forced hydronic system utilizing all new convectors, distribution piping, shell and tube heat exchangers and hydronic accessories. New domestic water heaters were installed for both kitchen temperature use and general-purpose use
Freedom Quad: In 1996 the University became the pre-season practice site for the NFL team of the New York Giants. They needed existing dormitories fitted with air-conditioning in a very short time frame.
Phase I Study - This work consisted of a study of possible air-conditioning options including an analysis with cost estimates.
Phase II Design and Construction Phase Services: Quantum Engineering Co. prepared design drawings and specifications for the installation of the ductless split air-conditioning system provided in the common areas and dorm rooms of Freedom Quad. This phase included all trades required for the completion of the work including general construction, mechanical and electrical.
State Quad Dormitories: 22-story high rise tower and 8-low rise surrounding units. Built in the 1960’s these units required plumbing system upgrades. Complete replacement of all sanitary sewer piping smaller than 3”. Project required substantial general construction cutting and patching including replacement of bathroom ceilings, and ceramic tile walls.
